Public Speaking
Best of luck to our Senior Public Speaking Team who are participating in the Mental Health Ireland Public Speaking Competition. The team consists of Fiona Leahy, Sháuna Caherly and Sikirat Sikaru and are through to the Regional Final, which commences on the 20th of February. Best wishes to the girls, we’re sure you’ll do us proud!

Y.S.I

The Young Social Innovators went for an Advocates workshop in Carrick on Shannon last Friday to keep them on track and help inspire them in ways to help the school and local community. The Y.S.I committee benefited from this a lot.

History Trip

On Friday 27th January, the TY’s and Ms. Murphy’s 5th year history class embarked on a trip to Dublin. They visited Dublin Castle, Glasnevin Castle, Kilmainham Jail and finally the RDS for the World Holiday Fair. The trip was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by all. Thanks to Ms. Mullooly and Ms. Murphy for the great day out.

Peer Mentoring

On Tuesday and Friday, Room 5 had a peer mentoring course with Carmel Daly and Theresa Connell. The girls learned a lot about drug and alcohol related issues.

Drama Workshop

On Thursday, the two TY classes, Room 5 and Room 6 had a drama workshop with Lorna Quinn, a former pupil of the school, who now stars in Fair City. Everyone really enjoyed the experience and we would like to thank Lorna for the very beneficial workshop!

Youth Factor 30th Jan 2012

Round two of the ‘Longford Youth Factor’ took place on Saturday last in the Temperance Hall. The theme of the night was 90′s music and the students from Méan Scoil Mhuire did not fail to impress the judges on the night. Aoife Kane, Aimee Kelly, Heather Moore, Helen McDermott, Kelly Lynch, Tara Farrell, and Valeria Kurkin performed to the best of their ability, singing classic 90′s songs. Best of luck to all involved in the upcoming semi-final.

BYT Pantomime

Well done to the Backstage Youth Theatre who successfully performed their pantomime ‘Alex in Wonderland’ over the past fortnight. The pantomime was an outstanding success and a wonderful night of entertainment. Well done in particular to Clodagh Healy, Hannah Carleton, and Heather Moore. Fair play girls!

Cross Country Running

School Cross Country running competitions took place in Sligo on Thursday last. Well done to Mary Sloane and Eimear O’Brien who took part. The girls all ran excellently in inclement weather conditions and both qualified for the Connaught finals in St. Mary’s in Galway on Wednesday next. Thanks to Mr. Sloane who accompanied the girls.

LCRL Workshop

The first years participated in a bullying awareness workshop on Monday and Tuesday last. This workshop was facilitated by Longford community resources limited. The workshop taught the girls about different types of bullying and how to deal with them. The day was thoroughly enjoyed and we would like to thank Longford Community Resources Limited for facilitating it and Mrs. O Brien who organised it.
