On the 5th of October our Junior Footballers ventured to Ballymahon to take on Mercy Ballymahon on a wet and turbulent day. Playing on a pitch that was hugely impacted by the weather we are accustomed to at this time of the year, our footballers started slowly, struggling to gain any momentum against the wind and in such poor weather conditions.
Ballymahon found themselves leading at half time 0-8 to 0-1 with our only score coming from full forward Hannah. After a change at half time, our girls started much more brightly and after hitting the post twice, we reduced the gap to three points, thanks to scores from Hannah. With five minutes remaining, Ballymahon found themselves in our penalty box for the first time in the second half and won a penalty which our goalkeeper Shauna produced a magnificent save to deny keeping the score at 0-8 to 1-3. Unfortunately it was not to be our day as Ballymahon kicked two points in succession to win the match 0-10 to 1-3.
It was a tough loss to take and leaves the Junior Footballers having to win their next two matches to qualify for the knockout phase, however the performance in the second half was much more positive and our young team, which featured a number of players representing the school for the first time due to football pausing as a result of COVID-19, will have taken a lot from the game.
