STEM DAY TWO TUS and Ericsson

Our Transition Year students spent Day 2 of STEM in TUS, Athlone on Tuesday, November 25th. The students spent the morning session exploring Design Thinking — a creative problem solving process used by leading companies, including Microsoft, to develop innovative concepts, products, and technologies. The students engaged with a variety of hands-on solutions, including Micro:bit and STEMPython, gaining valuable insights into real-world applications of STEM. In the afternoon, students travelled to Ericsson for an exciting tour of the company and an inside look at how its cutting-edge systems operate. Before leaving TUS, they were also given their 2nd Assignment to be completed ahead of their final STEM day, which will take place in the EDI Centre in January. We would like to thank the students for their enthusiasm and engagement in the project. We would also like to thank Ms.Clancy and Mr.Dennigan for accompanying the students on this beneficial and educational trip.

Ireland AM TV Appearance

There was palpable excitement in the school on Monday, November 24th, when one of our very own students, Clodagh Kennedy, 3rd year, featured live on Ireland AM on Virgin Media. Clodagh, Siobhán Greally, Longford County Council’s STEM Engagement Officer, to speak about the award-winning STEM programmes being delivered across the Midlands. Clodagh and Ronan from St Mel’s College shared their own classroom STEM experiences. They both spoke eloquently about their involvement in the STEM project. We would like to express our gratitude to Siobhán and Longford County Council who have been fantastic in supporting many STEM initiatives in Meán Scoil Mhuire. Congratulations to Clodagh and a sincere thank you to Ms McGoey for her time, dedication and enthusiasm for the robotics and STEM projects in the school!
