Handball Alley Camogie!
There was another large attendance at camogie training on Thursday, October 10th. The girls enjoyed the novelty of a new venue, St Mel’s College, where they made excellent use of the handball alleys to really focus on their striking. This was a very worthwhile exercise and the improvements very obvious, a big thanks to St Mel’s for the use of their facilities. Training continues next Thursday, new players always welcome. Thank you to Mr Regan and Mr Sweeney for their ongoing work with our Camogie team.
Senior Football
Commiserations to our senior footballers who were beaten by Mercy Ballymahon in the second game of the Leinster B Championship. It was very much a game of two halves. The girls started extremely brightly and were in control during the first half, leading 1-5 to 5 points at half time. There were some excellent performances particularly from the defence as we managed to block numerous shots and pressurise Ballymahon into kicking wides in the first half whilst also managing to counter and get up the field to take our own chances.
Unfortunately, in the second half we began to tire, coupled with a number of injuries, we struggled to get any momentum and when we had chances, didn't take them. Ballymahon punished us.
However, we will learn from the experience, won't let the heads drop. We will pick ourselves up for a must win game against Loreto Mullingar after the midterm where a win could still see us through to the next round. Thanks to Mr Dennigan, Mr Bennett and Maggie for working with the girls. Final score: Mean Scoil Mhuire 1-6 Mercy Ballymahon 2-11
Rugby Blitz
The girls enjoyed their first blitz of the year on October 10th. One First Year team and two Junior teams travelled to Edenderry RFC. All girls performed very well, with the First Years winning two games and both our Junior Teams also getting a few wins on the day. There was some excellent display of rugby throughout, with many girls new to the sport but grasping the game well. We look forward to our next blitz which will be held in November. Thank you to Ms Jobe and Ms O’ Farrell!
