APPPOINTMENT OF NEW PRINCIPAL AT MEÁN SCOIL MHUIRE

The Chairperson and Board of Management of Meán Scoil Mhuire, Longford are delighted to announce the appointment of Ms. Siobhán Cullen as the incoming Principal of the school. Ms. Cullen will take up her position later this year.

Following the retirement earlier this year of Principal Ms. Aoife Mulrennan, Ms. Mairéad Lyons who has held the position of Acting Principal for a number of years is now retiring after 25 years of dedicated service to the school.

Educated at University College Dublin and University College Galway, Ms. Siobhán Cullen has undertaken extensive Post Graduate studies in Education, most recently graduating with a Masters Degree of Education with a Specialism in Educational Management – Leadership for Learning from the University of Ulster.

Speaking about the new appointment, the Chairperson of the Board of Management, Ms. Karen Clabby says: “We are delighted to welcome Siobhán Cullen as the new Principal of Meán Scoil Mhuire. She will no doubt bring much energy and enthusiasm to the school”.

Over the course of her career to date Ms. Cullen has previously held a number of senior management roles, in County Longford as both Deputy Principal and Home School Community Liaison Coordinator at Ballymahon Vocational School, and most recently as Principal at Elphin Community College, Co. Roscommon. As a proud past pupil of the Sisters of Mercy in Lanesborough, County Longford, Ms. Cullen says that she looks forward to taking up her role in Meán Scoil Mhuire.

“Meán Scoil Mhuire was founded by the Sisters of Mercy who came to Longford from the Mother House in Baggot Street, Dublin in April 1861 to educate the girls of Longford. It is a school with a rich and proud heritage. I have no doubt that it also has a very bright future ahead as is evidenced every year in the high level of academic attainment of its students. Having recently obtained DEIS status, Meán Scoil Mhuire is now also able to offer enhanced facilities to students with special needs and those in need of additional supports. I look forward to getting to know the whole school community and to working with the Board of Management, parents, the management team, staff and students over the coming months and years”.

On behalf of the Board of Management, Chairperson Karen Clabby wishes to take this opportunity to welcome Siobhán Cullen to her new role and to thank the management team and staff at Meán Scoil Mhuire for their hard work and dedication. “As a Board of Management we are confident that our management team and teaching staff deliver an excellent standard of education to the girls of Longford which continues to be based on the core principles of Christian education in the Catholic tradition. In the spirit of its founding Congregation the Sisters of Mercy and as a Ceist school the welfare of our students and the promotion of excellence in education are our key priorities within the school and we look forward to the next chapter in our school’s rich history”.
